22/4/2008Stag 'do' ends in slashing
Lee Graham was knifed by a teenage robber and suffered a wound from the corner of his left eye to his nose.
The 24-year-old called for an ambulance and then, despite bleeding heavily, went looking for his attacker to try to catch him.
The call centre worker later needed 16 stitches and doctors told him he was lucky not to have lost an eye because the wound was so close to the socket.
He faces an agonising wait to find out if he will be permanently scarred.
Lee had been at a friend's stag night and was close to his home in Cardonald when he was approached by a man on Cardonald Place Road, near Paisley Road West.
Lee said: "I could hear someone come up behind me and he said 'Give me all your money.' I turned round and said 'No, go away.' Then he started taking a swipe at me with a knife.
"It is a miracle I haven't been left blind. I ran off because I had no idea if he was going to go for my neck or body.
"I got to my home and called an ambulance, but the adrenaline just kicked in and I went back out to see if I could find him. I was bleeding a lot at this point, but it was just instinct to go out and look."
When the ambulance arrived he was treated at the scene before being taken to the Southern General Hospital.
His wound is still weeping and doctors will not be able to tell if there is any lasting damage until the swelling goes down.
Lee said: "I just hope police can catch who did this.
"This could have happened to anyone. If he had slashed me anywhere else who knows what might have happened."
The attack happened around 1.40am on Saturday.
His attacker was white, probably in his late teens, about 5ft 8in and of slim/medium build. He had short dark hair and was wearing a light tracksuit.
Detective Sergeant David Wagstaff, at Govan CID, would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around that time and who may have seen the incident or the attacker running away.
Anyone with information is asked to call 0141 532 5400 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
